Andrew Sullivan
b.1980, Huntsville, Alabama, USA
Andrew is an American born painter and graphic artist.
At a young age Andrew’s family moved to snowy Syracuse, New York where he stayed to earn his BFA & MFA in Painting & Drawing from Syracuse University. As a young artist Andrew engaged in all forms of art and music and desired to travel, always trying new things. Growing up, he spent a lot of time outdoors in nature, where he gained an appreciation for the wilderness which has had a direct influence on his creativity and imagination.
Andrew credits much of his success to his education and family support. His parents celebrated art and music and he was fortunate to have excellent teachers at every level of study. As a student he immersed himself in art history and followed several American Abstract Painters, most notably Rauschenberg and Basquiat. He spent years researching and experimenting with collage and neo expressionism; producing an organic aesthetic that threads and connects all of his work.
After completing his Masters, Andrew moved to Jersey City, NJ. He began working with designers and art consultants, commissioning paintings and selling to private collectors, galleries and publishers. It was at this time he embraced design and graphics incorporating them into his work but still holding true to his developed signature organic aesthetic.
Andrew currently paints abstract landscapes and creates mixed media collages. The work oscillates anywhere from studio based to graphic design. The work is created using an ever changing process including several techniques that he has cultivated over several years. The surfaces are rich in texture where color and mark marking play integral roles in each piece. There is always music playing in his studio, located in Jersey City where he works and lives with his lovely wife Rebecca.
